Frequently Asked Questions
Though a GP referral is recommended, we can still provide you with consultations if you do not have one. Do note, you will need a GP referral to access the Medicare rebates available for clinical psychology sessions. Furthermore, it is a good idea to include your GP in your care team in order to provide you with the right medical support.
You can receive the Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in any one calendar year (i.e. 1st January to 31st December).
As of 1st July 2024, the Medicare Rebate is $ 141.85 cents. You need to ensure your bank account is linked with Medicare to receive your rebate.
Unfortunately we are not able to offer any bulk billed appointments at present.
You can contact us via email, mobile, or online via our website. Our contact details are on our website.
Yes, you can cancel a scheduled consultation session with us. However, you will need to inform us at least 24 hours prior. You will incur a cancellation fee ranging from 50-100% of the consultation fee for cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment. Cancellation fees will have to be paid before future consultations can be booked. Please refer to the service agreement form you will have received prior to beginning consultations with us for further details on the cancellation policy.
A standard session is for 50 minutes. If you require longer sessions (75 minutes or 90 minutes), please speak to your psychologist. Appointment availability and fees will differ for this.
There is no one size fits all approach in therapy. The first one to two sessions are usually an assessment for us to understand your issues and develop goals for therapy. The clinician will go through a whole set of questions covering various aspects of your life to better understand your current situation – this may include your early childhood, family history, relationships, friendships, education and work, substance use history and medical history. A collaborative treatment plan will be developed based on the outcome of the assessment.
Every individual is different and most clients require between 6- 10 sessions for short term work. Clients with more complex issues might need more than 10 sessions. Your clinician will discuss with you the number of sessions that you may require.
Once you begin therapy, it is important to be able to commit to regular sessions as well as to partake in active therapy exercises between sessions to set yourself up to gain maximum benefit from therapy.
If your medical insurance covers you for psychology sessions, we will provide a receipt and you can claim the rebate through your health insurer. We cannot directly bill your insurer and hence you will have to pay the fees in full at the time of the session and claim from your provider later. Please note you cannot use both Medicare and Private Health Insurance to fund a session. You must chose one or the other and let the psychologist know at the start of your session.
We do not work with third party referrals such as TAC, Worksafe, DVA or VOCAT.
We can provide you with consultations only if you have a self-managed NDIS plan. If you have a registered plan manager, you may receive psychology therapy from registered NDIS providers only. Please speak to your plan manager for further information about the same.
